We therefore provide laser hair removal with Light Sheer Diode Lasers.

HOW IT WORKS:

A laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light. Different types of lasers produce different colours (wavelengths) of light. The colour of light produced by a particular laser is the key to its effect on the desired tissue.

SAFE LIGHT

The light emitted by the LightSheer™Diode Laser is absorbed by the pigment located in hair follicles. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to vaporize the pigment, disabling several follicles at a time. The heat generated by the pigmented portion is transferred to the hair follicle. Here the heat damages the stem cells that are responsible for growth of a new hair.

A series of treatments are needed as only the hairs in the anagen phase of growth are affected. There are three phases of hair growth, anagen, catagen and telogen. Anagen is the active phase of growth , so when hairs are in this phase of growth the laser is most effective. 20 -30 % of your hair is in this phase of growth at anytime on your body.

Therefore, after one treatment there will be a reduction of about 20-30 % of your. An average of four treatments are needed for the body and 6 treatments for the face. There is also a waiting period between treatments to allow the next group of anagen hairs to be ready to be treated. There are 8 weeks between treatments for the body and 6 weeks between treatments for the face.

PREPERATION FOR LASER HAIR REMOVAL:

The laser needs a stub of hair in the follicle in order to transfer the heat to the stem cells. Therefore we recommend that you wait 4 weeks from your last waxing, plucking or electrolysis session before your first laser treatment. You can shave the area right up to two days prior to treatment. Trim longer hairs on face with scissors if these aggravate you during this waiting period. If you bleach your hair, wait 1 week from last bleaching before treatment.

PRE LASER PROTOCOL

• It is essential that hair is present under the skin so you must not wax, tweese,thread or have electrolysis for 3-4 weeks before your first session
• You can manage your hair by shaving, trimming, bleaching or using products like "Nair" or "Neet"

Tanning and Laser Hair Removal do not go well together. If you have a dark tan on the day of treatment, we will delay the treatment. After treatment, we ask you to avoid sun exposure for 4 weeks. This means no tanning beds and application of at least a 30 SPF to the lasered areas.

The laser should be used cautiously with:

• Cold Sores or genital herpes
• Uncontrolled diabetes
• Accutane for acne
• history of keloid scaring
• Pregnancy
• Photosensitive medications
• Permanent make up or tattoos

TREATMENT:

The preparation time and consultation usually takes far longer than the treatment.

Importantly, LightSheer's special contact-cooling hand-piece is perfect for sensitive skin. It directs the laser energy to the hair root while protecting and cooling the surrounding area.

AFTER A LASER TREATMENT:

Most people describe the sensation similar to a sunburn

• You can use sunburn products, cool cloths or even ice as often as desired
• A minimum of SPF 15 sunblock is imperative on the treated area for 4 weeks after RX
• The redness usually faddes within 24 hrs
• The hairs can take up to 3 weeks to be expelled from the follicle
• You can assist the hairs to expel by shaving or using a loofah or dry face cloth on the area

After treatment cool cloths or cool packs may be applied to the treated area. If the skin feels warm after treatment, more cooling should be done at home. The amount of 'heat' you may feel depends on how dark and course your hair is. Thick, course, dark hair usually results in more 'heat'.

A soothing gel lotion Peau Vive's 202 is recommended to be applied twice a day for 10 days after treatment.

WILL IT WORK?

Our results are amazing. No more ingrown hairs; no more itchy-grow in period; no more shaving; no more time consuming electrolysis;no more painful waxing; just smooth, hair free skin!! Just think, a bikini treatment takes about 15 minutes. Four appointments, 15 minutes long and 8 weeks between treatments and ………no more shaving!! You are always ready for the beach, pool or hot tub! Our studies are now up to 5 years. We have shown permanent removal of hair for this period of time. We cannot say permanent as in 'gone forever', because this procedure has not been around 'forever'. No laser will work on white, grey or really blond hair. The hair must have some pigment or colour in it to attract the laser energy. Therefore the laser will work on light brown to black hair. The LightSheer lasers that we use are the most current and up to date! They can tackle light brown to black hairs and fine hairs to thick hairs.

WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?

Laser hair removal can be done on every body part except the eyebrows. This area is too close to the optic nerve and we do not like to treat this region. It is also impossible to treat this region because the laser cannot give the precise treatment line required for shaping eyebrows. We do treat between the eyebrows to eliminate the 'unibrow' look.

POTENTIAL PROBLEMS:

Prolonged redness or puffiness from 24hrs to 3 days

• Pimples- dry up within 1 week
• Hypo-pigmentation-skin lightening-less than 10%
• Hyper-pigmentation-darkening less than 3%-dark skin types at higher risk
• Intra epidermal blisters-less than 10% occur 2-3 days after RX not painful fade in 10-21 days
• Blisters-10% ocurance heal in 5-7 days
• Non-responding - 20% mostly females with facila hair

POST HAIR REMOVAL

Peau Vive's Soothing Gel Lotionshould be applied every 12 hours for 10 days.
