- What Can I Expect During Treatment?
As this is a very tolerable experience, we will sometimes use a flow of cold air directed at the skin to increase patient comfort. This is referred to as an Arctic Peel. If preferred, a topical numbing agent may be used on the skin to increase patient comfort. As only thin layers of skin are removed at a time, this skin rejuvenation solution is often less invasive than other laser-based options.
Hair color and skin type influence the success of laser hair removal. For example, laser hair removal is most effective for people who have light skin and dark hair because the laser beam targets the pigment (melanin) in the hair. People who have darker skin can also attempt laser hair removal, but the laser beam may also affect the melanin in the skin. Laser hair removal isn’t generally effective for white, blond or gray hair — although treatment options for lighter hair continue to be investigated.
Laser hair removal doesn’t guarantee permanent hair removal. Some hair may be resistant to the laser treatment or may grow again after treatment — although the new hair growth may be finer and lighter in color.
- Am I a Good Candidate for a Laser Micropeel?
Men and women who are experiencing dull or lackluster skin, fine to moderate lines, rough skin texture, mild scarring and other superficial skin imperfections and who have realistic treatment expectations may be good candidates for this procedure. Patients who have open wounds on the skin or who have darker skin types may require further evaluation before treatment is approved. You should also avoid sun exposure for a few weeks afterward, meaning this treatment may not be ideal for patients who about to go on vacation.
- Is There Any Recovery Time?
After treatment, your skin may look and feel as though you have a slight sunburn, which is normal and a good indication that the skin’s healing response has begun. This side effect will subside within a day or so as fresh skin cells are generated and pushed to the surface.
- How Long Will My Results Last?
As part of a normal beauty regimen, laser micropeels can be performed from one to four times a year to maintain your smoother, softer skin and to keep your visible signs of aging at bay. During your consultation, our medical team will advise a treatment plan for your individual condition.
